Printing your Photos

Updated: Sep 5, 2023

When I was a child, you could always find me hiding out in my mom's office looking through the old photo albums. I loved seeing photos of my grandparents as kids, my parents pre-kids, but most of all I loved seeing my own story, from my mom pregnant to the hospital photos, to my first day of kindergarten.

Photos can mean so much, they show kids how loved they are. Photos also help them see who they are and where they come from. Most importantly they help them remember us. The world is getting more and more digital and photo printing seems to always be forgotten, challenging to find a good place, or the price for printed photos seems crazy high when you can print for 10 cents at Wal-Mart.

People often come to me with lots of questions about printing their photos, so I'm going to do an FAQ on printing photos.

  1. Where do I Print? My favourite place to print regular prints or anything for my walls is Brooklin Canvas, bonus they're a small local business. I also like PixPortal which is another Canadian company based in Edmonton, they are the consumer lab for Technicare which is a professional lab only available to photographers.

  2. Why won't my photos upload to *Insert Consumer Lab here* website? Most consumer labs serve 2 purposes, the first is to be as cheap as possible and the second is to provide easy printing to non-professionals. They usually can't handle the large full resolution files which means they either won't upload or they will print poorly. You should not have this problem at my recommended labs above but if you do have problems your best bet is to contact the lab your trying to print with because they will be able to help you. As much as I would like to be able to help you I am not their tech support and most likely have no idea how to solve the issue.

  3. I printed my photos at *Insert Consumer Lab here* and the colours look wrong/the images are spotty/dark/they look bad can you fix the photos for me and resend? I hate that your images printed wrong, I would complain to the lab and they may reprint for you/refund you and I would recommend printing with one of my recommended labs so this is less likely to happen.

I also offer printing services, please let me know if you have any questions about the products I offer. *Minimum order of $20 and all prices are plus HST*
