Durham Region Photographer - What to Wear for family sessions?
Updated: Jun 15, 2018
A question I get ask quite often is "What should we wear?" It can be quite difficult to come up with the perfect outfit for your session, these photos are going to be treasured for years to come. Here are some of my tips for choosing that perfect outfit:
1. Think timeless
These photos are going to hang on your walls for years to come, so think of something that can stand the test of time, that's not too bold. I tend to recommend neutrals.
2. Think complimenting colours
Think of colours that look really nice together and pick outfits from those colours so the family isn't all wearing the same thing. You don't want to be too matchy-matchy, but you don't want to be totally opposite either.
3. Limit patterns
Too many busy patterns can get distracting and take away from you.
4. Look at clothing collections
Go to stores that have matching collections, or look some up online to get an idea.
5. Think about your background
You don't want to be wearing the same colour as your background of you might get lost.
6. Avoid Logos/Characters
They can be distracting and they can show time.
7. Don't go too fancy, or too laid back
Being too formal I find looks out almost out of place, so I recommend against "wedding wear" unless you're at a wedding.
8. Choose something you feel good in!
